Boy, 13, dies after Blackpool house fire 'started by e-bike'

A 19-year-old man is also in hospital in a serious condition

A 13-year-old boy has died after a Blackpool house fire believed to have started by an e-bike charger.

Coby Keogh died from his injuries in hospital yesterday (5 July).

Emergency services were called out to Redcar Road at around 9.30am on Tuesday 30 June.

Five fire engines attended and crews rescued two people from the house.

One was Coby, the other was a 19-year-old man, named locally as Joey Gregory.

Mr Gregory was reportedly staying at his friend’s home when the fire broke out.

The pair were taken to hospital with serious injuries, where the 19-year-old remains in a serious condition.

Three other people in the house suffered minor injuries.

A Blackpool Police spokesperson said: "An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing between police and the fire and rescue service and there is no third-party involvement.

"At this time, we believe the fire was started by an e-bike."

Officers are continuing to appeal for anyone with information on the fire to call 101 quoting log 0451 of 30th June.
