Chorley man charged after BB gun incident with police in Preston
Anthony Woods faces multiple charges following confrontation
A man has been charged after aiming a BB gun at police officers who stopped his car in Preston on Sunday night.
The incident unfolded at 9.40pm on Sunday, when officers signalled for a Ford Fiesta on New Hall Lane to pull over, suspecting it had illegal number plates.
The vehicle did not stop immediately and was halted on Brockholes Brow following tactical intervention.
Arrest and Charges
A 20-year-old man from Chorley, Anthony Woods, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possessing a firearm and an offensive weapon.
Further consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service led to Woods being charged with several offences.
He faces charges of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, and nine counts of possessing a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place.
Additionally, Woods is charged with possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation, dangerous driving, fraudulent use of a registration mark, driving without insurance, and driving without a licence.
Woods has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at Preston Magistrates Court today, 23rd June.
Address Search and Passenger Status
Three passengers in the car—a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old man and woman, all from Preston—were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon but have since been released with no further action.
As part of the ongoing enquiry, officers searched an address in Chorley, discovering a suspected grenade, which was confirmed to be non-viable.
The investigation continues as authorities work to gather all necessary evidence and ensure public safety.
