Burnley man jailed for shoplifting offences after proactive police operation
Robert Simpson sentenced following multiple theft charges
Robert Simpson, 36, of no fixed abode, has been sentenced to 20 weeks in prison for a string of shoplifting offences in Burnley.
Simpson appeared at Blackburn Magistrates Court yesterday, 29th September, following his arrest during a proactive policing operation conducted by plain clothed officers at the Shell Service Station on Trafalgar Street the previous afternoon.
Named as a suspect in multiple theft incidents, Simpson was charged with four counts of theft from shops and four breaches of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO). He was also wanted for recall to prison.
Inspector Gar Cheung of Burnley Neighbourhood Policing commented: “This kind of criminality will not be tolerated, and we hope today’s result offers some justice to the local residents and businesses who have been targeted. Shoplifting is not a victimless crime and we continue to work with our local businesses to prevent these types of offences occurring as part of Operation Vulture."
Operation Vulture represents Lancashire Constabulary’s strategic response to shoplifting across the county, supported by Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw.
The conviction emphasizes ongoing police efforts to handle shoplifting and related crimes, bolstering community safety initiatives in Burnley and beyond.
