The family of a man who was killed in a fatal crash in Burnley on Thursday (January 16th) have paid tribute to their "amazing" grandad, husband and dad.

Lancashire Police were alerted to an incident taking place on Padiham Road just after 5:05pm on Thursday.

When officers arrived at the scene close to the junction with Lakeland Way, they found that a man had been hit by a Hyundai iX20 on the carriageway.

The pedestrian had suffered serious injuries following the incident and was taken to hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

Officers have now named the man as 66-year-old Malcolm Stewart Orme, a garage owner in Burnley.

In a statement released through the police, Malcolm's family paid tribute to Malcolm, saying: "Malcolm Stewart Orme sadly died doing the job he loved on Thursday 16th January.

"Malc, aged 66, was a loving husband to Carol, dad to Kaylea, Nicola and Alex and an amazing grandad. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him."

Padiham Road was shut to traffic to allow for an investigation by police, but was reopened several hours later.

Speaking as the investigation continues, Sergeant Simon Strickland from Lancashire Police said the force's thoughts were with Malcolm's loved ones.

"We know there were many people and vehicles in the area around the time this tragic collision happened," he said.

"If you have any information and footage which could help our investigation and you have not already made contact with us, I would ask that you please do so as soon as possible."

Those who may have any relevant information regarding the incident are being urged to get in touch as soon as possible by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 0940 from January 16th.
