Blackpool bar shut down after violent assault
Licence revoked due to safety concerns
Notorious Bar in Blackpool has had its licence permanently revoked following a violent incident that occurred last month.
On Saturday 18th April at around 4:15am, officers responded to a report of a serious assault at the bar located on Queen Street.
The attack resulted in a person sustaining stab wounds that required hospitalisation.
Following the incident, Lancashire Police requested an urgent review of the bar's licence.
The Blackpool Council licensing committee held this review on Monday 11th May.
After deliberation, elected members decided to permanently revoke the bar's licence.
Licensing Sergeant Nat Cox provided insight into the police's decision.
“Through NightSafe, we are actively working with licenced premises to provide a safe and welcoming environment in Blackpool,” he said.
“Good nights out start with safe spaces and unfortunately Notorious Bar was deemed unsuitable to continue trading and their licence was revoked.
“The premises was a cause for concern in our community and the violent incident last month resulted in people needing hospital treatment.
“This situation was entirely unacceptable, and we requested a licence review, which ultimately led to it being revoked and the premises being closed.
“I hope this reassures our communities that we will pursue every possible avenue to protect public safety.
“I also hope it serves as a clear warning to other licensed venues that firm action will be taken whenever concerns arise.”
