Base jumpers launched from Blackpool Tower in daring stunt
The group bypassed security measures to leap from the iconic landmark
Three base jumpers startled onlookers at Blackpool Tower by parachuting from its heights, an act branded as "extremely dangerous" by local authorities.
On Sunday, the trio, known as LMSD (Let’s Make Stupid Decisions), disguised themselves as regular visitors to gain access to the top of Blackpool Tower. Using a specialised tool, they managed to discreetly unlock one of the windows on the viewing platform and launched themselves over the busy promenade and tramlines below.
Blackpool Tourism Ltd expressed concerns over the potential risks of the jump, explaining that even though the individuals appeared unhurt, the actions could have led to severe consequences for both the jumpers and the public observing the stunt.
The company assured that all windows at the tower are securely locked and noted that the individuals had utilised specific equipment to carry out the act after several unsuccessful attempts to open other windows.
The base jumpers defended their actions, attributing their success to careful planning and risk assessment. LMSD described themselves as the UK's largest base jumping school, emphasising their commitment to safety and meticulous preparation.
Lancashire Police are currently investigating the incident and have appealed to the public for any additional information or footage.
