A 43-year-old man has been arrested in Blackburn after police responded to reports of someone with a sword.

Officers were called to Bolton Road at 7.02pm yesterday after people contacted them saying they'd seen a man armed with the weapon, both inside and outside a property.

Police - some of whom were armed - arrived at the scene and found a man refusing to leave the building.

A cordon was set-up, and negotiators engaged with a man for several hours.

The stand-off concluded at 1.41am today, when a man exited the property.

A man arrested at the scene on suspicion of affray remains in custody.
