Man dies after Preston crash between off-road bike and car

A man has died and two people have been arrested following a crash between an off-road bike and car in Preston.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Arnhem Road and Fishwick Parade at around 4pm on 28th December.

The bike rider, 33-year-old Alex Swales, was thrown from his bike in the collision and suffered serious injuries.

He died in hospital.

Two men in their 30s have been arrested, one on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and assisting an offender, and the other on suspicion of assisting an offender.

It's believed Alex was riding with four other off-road bikes at the time, but the other riders left the scene before police officers arrived.

A Lancashire police spokesperson said, "Emergency services were called at about 4pm on Sunday, December 28th following the collision between an off-road bike and a Renault Clio at the junction of Arnhem Road and Fishwick Parade.

"The bike was travelling along Arnhem Road towards Fishwick Parade along with four other off-road bikes when the collision happened.

"The rider was thrown from the bike and suffered multiple injuries. He was taken to hospital and died from his injuries.

"He can be named as Alex Swales, 33, from Preston. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this time.

"The Renault driver was unhurt.

"By the time police arrived shortly after the collision all the bikes had been removed from the scene, and the other riders had left the area."
