Man denies shooting murder of father at Lancashire family farm
Adam Olverson, 31, denies murder and manslaughter
A man has denied the murder of his father in a shooting at their family farm.
Earlier this month Adam Olverson, 31, appeared before magistrates to face a charge of manslaughter over the death of Thomas Olverson, 75, in Scarisbrick, Lancashire, on July 25 2024.
On Wednesday 29 July the defendant made his first appearance at Preston Crown Court where the fresh allegation of murder was put to him.
Olverson entered not guilty pleas to both murder and manslaughter, and also denied possessing a double-barrelled, side-by-side 12-bore hammer shotgun without a certificate.
The Recorder of Preston, Judge Robert Altham, granted him bail ahead of a pre-trial review on 22 February 2027.
Among the defendant’s bail conditions are he must reside at his home address of Marsh Hey Farm in Pinfold Lane, abide by a night-time curfew and must surrender his passport.
A trial date of 19 April 2027 was fixed with an estimated length of up to three weeks.
Thomas Olverson was pronounced dead at the farm as emergency services attended following a report of a gunfire discharge in a field off Pinfold Lane in the late afternoon.
