Three people arrested after multiple incidents in Accrington
Two people have been seriously injured and Lancashire Police believe the incidents are linked
Lancashire Police have arrested three people following serious incidents in Accrington.
Officers were called to Lower Antley Street at 2.37pm yesterday afternoon (Friday 18) following reports of an assault which happened outside Raza Jamia Masjid.
Police attended and found a man in his 40s had suffered an injury to his back, consistent with being stabbed.
He has been taken to hospital and his condition is described as serious but stable.
At 5.15pm, Police were called to Steiner Street following reports of a number of individuals were fighting in the street with weapons.
At 5.18pm they were called to Craven Street, Accrington, following reports of a further assault.
A man has been taken to hospital with an injury consistent with being stabbed in the neck. His condition is described as very poorly.
While officers are at the early stages of their investigation, they are treating the incidents as being linked.
Following enquiries, Police have arrested three people from Accrington on suspicion of affray.
They are a 36-year-old man, a 33-year-old woman and a 36-year-old woman. They remain in custody at this time.
DI Lou Briggs, from East CID, said: “Two men have been left seriously injured and first and foremost of thoughts are with them and their loved ones.
“Incidents of this nature are rare in Accrington and we know that the community will be understandably concerned by them.
“I want to assure everyone that we have a significant policing presence in the area, to both carry out enquiries and provide reassurance to residents. This increased presence will remain over the coming days.
“We know that there were people in the area filming. If this is you, or if you know of any mobile phone, CCTV or dashcam footage that could assist our enquiries, please get in touch with the investigation team as soon as possible.
“Finally, I would ask people not to engage in unhelpful speculation but to allow my officers the time and space to carry out a thorough investigation.”
