The town of Wigan will pay tribute to the late Sir William John "Billy" Boston KBE, a celebrated figure in rugby league, as his funeral takes place on Thursday, 10th September.

While the funeral service itself will be held at The Brick Community Stadium, those unable to attend in person can still join in the remembrance by watching the cortege pass through Wigan.

Attendees with passes are encouraged to arrive at the stadium by 11:15am. Turnstiles will close at 12:15pm, and the service will start at 12:30pm.

For those attending in person, Car Park 1 on Stadium Way will be available, and attendees are asked to wear traditional funeral attire, with the option to wear items in Cherry Red to honour Billy.

Respects to the family should be maintained, avoiding photography and videography during the service. After the service, attendees are asked to remain seated as the procession departs the stadium. The Wigan Warriors First Team will form a Guard of Honour for Sir Billy Boston.

For those who are not present, the funeral cortege will proceed through Wigan, allowing fans and residents to pay their respects along the route.

The service will be officiated by Fr Paul Grady with music by Lauren Waterworth. An online Order of Service will be available from Wednesday, 9th September for anyone wishing to print at home.

The funeral service will also be live-streamed for free via Wigan TV, with the link available from 12:00pm on the day.

The Brick Community Stadium's Ticket Office will close at 11:00am on Thursday and will reopen after the service. The Latics Store will remain closed, while the Warriors Club Store will close from 12:00pm to 2:00pm to allow staff attendance at the funeral.

Family flowers only will be accepted, with donations to Wigan & Leigh Hospice in memory of Sir Billy & Lady Joan Boston encouraged.
