World War One memorial plaques stolen from Chatham church

Two plaques honouring soldiers who died in the First World War have been stolen from a churchyard in Chatham.

Kent Police say they were taken from Christ Church on Luton Road sometime between 10.00pm last Friday (23rd May) and 10.00pm on Saturday (24th May).

The plaques have been there for over a hundred years.

Investigating officer, PC Alanya Spiller, said:

"These memorials to those who gave their lives during the First World War have been in place at the church lychgate for over a hundred years.

"Their loss has had a considerable impact on the local community, and we are appealing to anyone who may be able to assist our enquiries to contact us."

Anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage from the area is asked to pass it on to Kent Police.
