Thousands of people in Tunbridge Wells and surrounding areas have been without running water after a treatment works shut down.

Engineers have been carrying out urgent repairs at Pembury Water Treatment Works since an issue was discovered yesterday (Saturday 29th November 2025).

South East Water says the issue has caused the dependent local drinking water storage tanks to run low.

Its staff have been delivering bottled water to vulnerable people who are unable to leave their homes - and bottled water stations have also been set up.

In its latest update South East Water said:

"We are very sorry to customers in the Tunbridge Wells area who have no water or low pressure this afternoon.

"Our bottled water station at Tunbridge Wells Sports Centre, St John's Rd, Royal Tunbridge Wells TN4 9TX is currently closed while we replenish stock.

"We hope to have this opened again shortly.

"We will be closing the bottled water station at Sovereign Way East Car Park, Tonbridge, TN9 1QH, due to the winter festival, and we are looking to relocate this bottled water station.

"We'll update you with the new location as soon as we can."

Supplies are not expected to be back to normal until 6am tomorrow morning (Monday 1st December 2025) at the earliest.
