An MP in Kent has told us the return of a contraflow system is 'unacceptable' and has promised to find a 'long term solution' to the problem.

The much debated contraflow system will come into force on the M20, covering the 13-miles between junctions eight (Maidstone) and nine (Ashford), which will be closed between 8pm on Sunday evening and 5am Monday morning, to deploy the system

It is being put in place before the Christmas holidays, ending on the 22nd of December and Sojan Joseph, the MP for Ashford, has criticised the decision.

"I'm absolutely against it, It doesn't help anyone in Ashford, Maidstone, Folkestone and wider Kent. It will damage the economy and just take longer to get to places

"I would have hoped operation brock was to be used in an emergency but now it is used as a precaution and it's not acceptable that every school holidays half term we will see the system.

"One solution is an early warning system for all the lorries, who will get a warning if there are any issues so they don't proceed to Kent and can stay where they are.

"Though the most appropriate solution is to get all the lorries onto a train which would take them down to the port of dover and the channel."
