Operation Brock's back in place this weekend as thousands are expected to travel through Kent for the Bank Holiday.

Work to install the barrier, which aims to help with congestion, took place last night.

Toby Howe's Tactical Lead for the Kent and Medway Resilience Forum.

He said: "Operation Brook is a system in place to control the flow of freight that are heading to Euro tunnel and the Port of Dover to head over to Europe.

"It is the only traffic management option that the Kent and Medway Resilience Forum currently have to control that flow and it acts as a pressure valve in effect when needed.

"So it'll be going out overnight tonight, which is Tuesday the 19th, and it'll be coming back in a week later.

"And the reason it's out this time around is for the Wits and Half term.

"So it's a very large, busy summer getaway really for tourists.

"And we're expecting an awful lot of people to be heading out and travelling to Europe really for the half term."

Mr Howe has advised those travelling to be aware of the heat and prepare for the drive with drinks and food as well as medications.

He added: "Really what it does is what we find is if it gets very busy down at Eurotunnel or Port of Dover, traffic can spill out onto the road network out of the two portals.

"And the last thing we want is all of the freight that also is heading over to Europe to join that queue really.

"So we really try and keep Kent moving, keep the communities free, etc.

"And the last thing we want is increased congestion. So if we can at least hold back the freight when it starts to get busy, that stops that adding to it."
