Mote Park Watersports Centre sees high demand amid Kent heatwave
The centre welcomes visitors, but also warns people to stay vigilant of water safety
Amid the ongoing heatwave in Kent, Mote Park Water Sports Centre is experiencing a surge in visitors seeking relief from Kent's soaring temperatures.
Stuart Clarke, manager of the Watersports Centre at Mote Park, told Greatest Hits Radio Kent about the busy atmosphere:
"It has been absolutely super busy.
"It's been lovely to see the public enjoy themselves in the hot weather for how it is, but obviously, it's important to be safe around water as well."
The Centre offers a range of activities, with standup paddleboarding proving most popular:
"The paddleboards have become jumping in platforms for many in the hot weather, but also it's just nice to have cruise and get that breeze across the water.
"So stand up paddle boarding by far has been the most popular, without a doubt." Stuart said.
While the heatwave attracts more visitors, it has also raised water safety concerns across the county.
Nevertheless, the centre remains vigilant:
"It's so important that the governance of safety equipment around the sites and across Kent and the River Medway is kept up to scratch to ensure public safety," Stuart added:
"It's good that I feel the public have got much more conscious generally, especially with sort of children and young teenagers around that sort of area.
So I think having this safety equipment available and also the new awareness of how hot it's been, it's been good all round for safety, I think"
Staying hydrated and safe around the water is essential amid the rising temperatures.
