A mental health charity in Kent has told us they saw a spike in referrals over December.

Rewrite your story, who are based in Maidstone, says the amount of people using their services increased last month.

And, going into January, this has continued trend with 15 people being referred to them already.

Michelle Hodgkiss works for the charity and explains what the January blues are, she said: "Over the festive period people may have enjoyed time resting, time with their families.

"And, in January, structure must be reinstated and there's that realisation that the bubble has been popped and we can't stay in that dream like state.

"However, some people don't have those families and that another reason why this can be tough because everybody is ramping up for Christmas and enjoying festive times together.

"However, if that is not where you are, it can be huge contrast and reminder about how bad you might be experiencing life or how time you are finding at the moment."

On what people can do to battle the blues, Michelle said: "Just continue to reach out to people, whether that be over the phone, on face time, messaging each other or going for a coffee just try and stay connected.

"As that's what we do find, especially when the weather is terrible, fewer people are mingling and it didn't does our well being any good if we are just locked in our home."
