Man dies after car and tanker involved in crash near Ashford
A man in his 40s has died after a crash yesterday afternoon on the A2070
A man has died following a collision involving a tanker in Hamstreet, near Ashford.
At around 3.15pm yesterday afternoon (13th January) a silver Vauxhall Meriva was travelling south on the A2070 Ashford Road when it was involved in a crash with a purple Volvo tanker heading in the opposite direction.
The car struck a barrier while the tanker jack-knifed, with its tractor unit leaving the road and entering a wooded embankment close to the railway line.
Emergency services, including Kent Police patrols, South East Coast Ambulance Service, and Kent Fire and Rescue Service, attended the scene near the Poundhurst Road overbridge.
The driver of the Vauxhall, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene, and his family has been informed.
The tanker driver was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries.
Police appeal
Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit is carrying out enquiries and is urging anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles before the crash to come forward.
Officers are also appealing for any dashcam footage relevant to the collision.
