Man in his 80s dies after collision involving a mobility scooter in Maidstone

Police are appealing for witnesses and footage after a man in his 80s died, following a collision between his mobility scooter and a car.

The incident happened at around 1pm on Friday 21st November 2025 near a pedestrian crossing by Maidstone Library on the A229, Royal Engineers Road.

A silver Volkswagen Passat, travelling towards Maidstone, was involved in a collision with a man riding a blue mobility scooter.

The man was taken to a hospital in London, where he died from his injuries the following day.

His family have been informed.

The driver of the car, a man in his 40s, was arrested and has been released on bail while the investigation continues.

Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is carrying out an investigation and is calling for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone who saw the incident, or events leading up to it, is urged to get in touch.

Drivers with dashcam footage are encouraged to upload it via the police’s online portal.
