Kent's public to pay more for their policing
Council tax will rise this year, to help fund Kent Police.
Kent's police and crime commissioner has told us the public will have to pay more for their policing this year.
As a result, to fund Kent Police, council tax will rise by an extra £14 for 2025, but despite this, Matthew Scott will still need to find £10m of savings, he said: "Unfortunately it is very much necessary because without it our savings target would increase by £10 million.
"It's not a decision that I take with any ease, in fact, I would love to be in a position where we didn't need to do this but the promise I give is that I will always spend it well. Every pound we can save, we will, every pound we can spend better, we will, because every time we do that's more we can for the public.
"The sad fact of the matter is the government haven't supported us around the police pay rises as we were promised, they haven't supported us around compensation for national insurances rises, which they kept promising they would and have broken that promise so all of these cost pressure have to be met somewhere."
