Two charged in fatal Gillingham collision that left elderly man dead
Men charged with death by dangerous driving and perverting justice
Two men have been charged following a fatal collision in Gillingham, Kent, where an elderly pedestrian in his 80s died after being struck by a car and carried for up to a mile.
The incident occurred on Monday 29th December at around 12.10pm on the A289 Gads Hill. Police say a grey Mercedes estate was involved in the collision with the pedestrian, who was later found on Grange Road, potentially almost a mile from the initial impact.
The car was discovered nearby, and its two occupants fled the scene on foot.
On Friday morning, Kent Police confirmed that Albert Matraxhiu, 28, of Orange Hill Road, Edgware, north London, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Erald Paci, 29, of Five Way Court, Chatham, Kent, was charged with perverting the course of justice.
Both men are Albanian nationals and have been remanded in custody. They are scheduled to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision remain ongoing.
