Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever returns to Folkestone
Thousands expected for the Kate Bush-themed dance event
Folkestone is celebrating the Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever, an event bringing together fans of Kate Bush for a dance tribute inspired by the iconic singer's "Wuthering Heights" music video.
The event originated in Brighton by arts group Shambush and now features worldwide.
It's grown each year since its 2018 Folkestone debut, with estimates of up to 2,000 attendees annually, witnessing a surge post-COVID as people celebrate in large groups.
Organiser Toby Cotton told us what to expect, and the dress code:
"You don't have to be very well prepared.
"You can just turn up on the day, bring something red. I mean, we do frown on people arriving in colours other than red.
"That's the one sort of quite hard and fast rule. But you can just turn up in red on the day and kind of just get on with it, really.
"We like to keep it open.
"I mean, it looks better in videos if people are doing vaguely the same moves at more or less the same times.
"So there is we have a like a tutorial video on YouTube that you can find. "
For those unable to find the YouTube videos in time, there will also be professional dances assisting with movements.
On the best part of the day, Cotton added:
"As soon as people arrive on the day, then I get that surge of energy. And that's something that I always really look forward to because I know that will happen.
"So that's something I'm looking forward to now.
"In terms of memories, each time is the same, but always slightly different. So last year, in the early dance, we had terrible weather and it was really raining quite heavily and people still came and enjoyed it. And so that's kind of special.
"We've had other times when it's been quite windy. So the waves have been hitting one side of the harbour wall.
"One year there were porpoises and little dolphins swimming in the harbour afterwards. I mean, that was incredibly magical.
"At the time, I told people that that was planned, but clearly that was just entirely accidental.
"So that was amazing. In recent years, we've had paddle boarders arriving to do it. That's a really special memory the first time that happened.
"So yeah, loads of really special memories from lots of the years."
Participants are encouraged to embrace the experience, regardless of skill level.
