Eight Kent parks recognised with Green Flag Award for excellence
Country parks in Kent celebrated for their outstanding natural beauty
Eight country parks in Kent have retained their prestigious Green Flag Awards, confirming them as exemplary spaces for public enjoyment and environmental conservation.
The Green Flag Award is an internationally recognised mark of excellence for parks and green spaces.
The parks that have been honoured this year include Lullingstone, Grove Ferry, Shorne Woods, Teston Bridge, Trosley, Manor Park, Pegwell Bay, and Brockhill.
These parks reflect the rich diversity of Kent's natural landscapes, spanning ancient woodlands, chalk grasslands, river valleys, and coastal habitats.
These spaces not only serve the community by offering recreation and relaxation opportunities but are also essential for local wildlife.
Community pride and hard work celebrated
Jamie Henderson, Cabinet Member for Environment, Coastal Regeneration & Public Health, expressed pride in the parks' achievement, acknowledging the dedication of the teams who maintain these areas.
“Our country parks make a real difference to people’s lives. They are places where families can spend time together, people can enjoy nature and wildlife can thrive.
"Retaining eight Green Flag Awards is a fantastic achievement and reflects the commitment of the teams who look after these special places every day – thank you for all you do.
"We are incredibly proud to have maintained these nationally recognised standards for communities across Kent.”
Keeping spaces safe and welcoming
Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award Manager at Keep Britain Tidy, highlighted the importance of parks in public life, particularly in less affluent areas.
“Parks are essential public spaces that support our wellbeing, our communities, and our economy. Yet for millions of people, particularly in the most deprived areas, local parks simply don’t feel safe or welcoming.
‘With public services under pressure, investing in parks is not a luxury, it’s a practical, preventative solution and one of the most visible ways to improve people’s quality of life.”
The Green Flag Award scheme is managed by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.
