Dispersal order in place after young people cause antisocial behaviour in Broadstairs
A section 60 is in place until later this afternoon
Kent Police have issued a dispersal order for areas of Broadstairs, after antisocial behaviour in Broadstairs.
Officers say issues caused by a 'small minority of young people in public areas' led to the section 60 order being enacted, meaning police in the area have enhanced stop and search powers.
It came into effect at 4:30pm yesterday, and is in place until 4:30pm today.
It covers the following roads, which form a perimeter. The section 60 is enacted within:
Dumpton Bay onto Seacroft Road up to the junction with South Cliff Parade;
Detling Avenue onto Dumpton Park Drive;
Montefiore Avenue onto Hereson Road;
Boundary Road onto Margate Road (A254);
New Cross Street, inclusive of Macdonald’s;
New Haine Road and Haine Road;
Margate Road until Poorhole Lane, following the road to Westwood Road;
Vicarage Street, Church Street, Beacon Road, and Convent Road to Kingsgate Bat Road, Joss Bay;
The coast, foreshores and beaches back to Dumpton Bay.
Issues which caused the order to be enforced are thought to be fighting, aggressive behaviour towards shop staff, and under-age street drinking.
Police can ask people in the zone to leave, and they risk arrest if they don't comply.
