Residents and commuters near Mill Road in Sturry, Canterbury, are no longer required to close windows and doors after a fire at a commercial building was brought under control.

While the flames have been extinguished, drivers should still check for traffic updates due to lingering congestion in the area.

Initial advisories had warned of heavy smoke requiring the closure of windows and doors.

Crews had responded with seven fire engines and the Technical Rescue unit.

Current Status and Investigation

As of 9:50am, the fire operation has been scaled back to one engine while the Technical Rescue team continues its support.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service's volunteer response team is also present.

No injuries have been reported, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the blaze.

UK Power Networks had earlier cut the main fuse, affecting nearby properties, with a plan to isolate only the impacted building.

Residents are encouraged to share these updated advisories, especially with individuals who may lack internet access.
