16-year-old boy found driving in Thanet with fake licence
Police have been taking action to stop illegal delivery drivers
Three cars have been seized and 11 drivers have been reported for traffic offences as part of ongoing work to disrupt illegal delivery drivers in Thanet.
The work by Kent Police was aimed at reminding food delivery drivers of their responsibilities to drive safely and legally.
During the evening of Friday 6 June, a total of 22 drivers using cars and scooters to deliver takeaway food to homes were stopped and spoken to.
Assisted by officers from the Home Office, checks were made by officers to ensure each driver had the proper documentation, including the correct business insurance.
A total of 11 people were reported for traffic offences, including not being insured for business use, and having false driving licences.
One of the cars stopped was seized after it was found to be driven by a 16 year old boy using a fake driving licence.
PC Glenn Castle who led the evening operation, said: "Neighbourhood officers worked together and used a number of approaches to identify and stop any vehicles which were believed to be used for delivery work in and around Thanet.
"While this is not an offence in itself, workers must ensure they have the correct documents, including a valid driving licence and business insurance, and can provide them when asked to by an officer.
"Otherwise they risk breaking the law and can face a fine or even an appearance in court. Uninsured drivers can also put other road users at risk if a collision were to happen, so we will continue to regularly run operations such as this to ensure the message gets through."
