Trailblazer programme returns to boost employment across North Yorkshire
Initiative continues to overcome barriers to work
The Get Britain Working Economic Inactivity Trailblazer returns for a second year, aiming to overcome employment barriers and support thousands of individuals in York and North Yorkshire.
Launched by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, this £10 million programme endeavours to help people with long-term health issues and other employment obstacles, offering support through collaboration between the North Yorkshire Council, City of York Council, NHS Humber, Better Connect, and multiple projects commissioned by the Combined Authority.
In its first year, the initiative supported 1,945 people, resulting in 120 starting employment, 225 enrolling in education or training, 234 starting volunteering, and 83 participating in work experience. Additionally, 261 employers accessed support through Trailblazer activities.
This year's goals include assisting 1,500 individuals not currently working, 500 people who are employed, and 150 businesses.
David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, expressed his pride in the programme's accomplishments: "We've supported thousands of Disabled people and those living with long-term health conditions or other complex needs, giving them the confidence they need to succeed."
Cllr Carl Les, North Yorkshire Council’s leader, emphasised the impact on the regional economy, adding, "The first year of the Trailblazer project has been so important in helping to achieve this, with 17 projects being delivered across the county."
Councillor Bob Webb, Deputy Leader of City of York Council, highlighted the role of Trailblazer in driving local economic growth and creating good jobs: "The continued funding will carry on the important work of powering the local economy."
Jason Stamp, Chair of NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, emphasised the programme's integration with health and employment support: "By supporting residents who have been out of work, we are helping people overcome health and wellbeing barriers."
