A man from Ripon has been jailed for 45 months for crimes against two women, including assault and controlling behaviour.

Noah Munson, 21, was convicted at York Crown Court of wounding and assaulting one victim, and controlling or coercive behaviour, alongside two charges of assault against another woman.

In September 2023, Munson attacked a woman on Queen Street, Ripon, striking her with such force that she sustained two large lacerations to her head and required hospitalisation.

The victim described her experience in a personal statement to the court: “That night, I genuinely believed I was going to die. From the moment I sustained my injuries until I arrived at the hospital, I experienced a level of fear I had never known before.”

While on bail for this offence, another woman reported Munson's coercive and controlling behaviour to the police, describing how she lived in constant fear due to his threats and physical violence.

On 7th May 2026, Munson pleaded guilty to the charges at Leeds Crown Court. The judge praised the victims for their courage in supporting the prosecution process.

Following the sentencing on 22nd May 2026, DC Louise Kennemore of North Yorkshire Police highlighted the severe impact of Munson's actions: “The offending by Munson demonstrates a pattern of serious violence and coercive behaviour against female victims, causing both significant physical injury and long-term psychological harm.”

DC Kennemore further urged victims of violence and domestic abuse to seek support: “Tackling violence and domestic abuse against women and girls is a priority for North Yorkshire Police. It can happen to anyone – if you’re experiencing it, please come forward. You’re not to blame for what’s happening, and you’re not alone.”
