Northern train operator implements May timetable changes
Passengers advised to check updated schedules
Northern train operator has implemented adjustments to its timetable as part of the national schedule update that occurs each May and December. While most services remain unchanged, targeted modifications are designed to enhance punctuality and are informed by feedback from Northern’s customers.
In the North East, direct Sunday services now connect Newcastle to Whitby, removing the need for transfers. Meanwhile, trains between Sheffield and Lincoln in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire will stop at all stations along the route on Sundays. Additionally, minor changes aimed at improving punctuality have been introduced across select routes in the North West.
Passengers are encouraged to confirm their travel plans using available resources such as the Northern app and the National Rail Enquiries journey planner. These tools provide real-time updates, ticket purchase options, and notifications regarding any service adjustments.
Toby Higgins, Head of Business Performance at Northern, commented, "We've listened to feedback from our customers and have focused on improving reliability with these timetable changes. While changes are minor, I'd urge customers to check the revised schedules as some services will depart a few minutes earlier than before to enhance overall punctuality."
Northern, as the second-largest train operator in the UK, manages over 2,650 daily services at more than 500 stations across the North of England.
