North Yorkshire parking tariffs set for county-wide revision in April
Council aims to enhance car parks and establish consistent charges
North Yorkshire Council plans to revise parking charges across its 170 car parks by April to ensure fairness, consistency, and coverage of the parking service’s costs.
The new tariffs are expected to be implemented on 1st April, following previous management by seven separate borough and district councils.
North Yorkshire Council says that this change will support its efforts to maintain key frontline services.
An investment of ÂŁ2.4 million has been earmarked for these improvements.
The council plans to allocate ÂŁ2 million to replace existing pay and display machines with state-of-the-art, ticketless options in 150 locations and improve signage.
Additionally, ÂŁ400,000 will be directed towards upgrading lighting, with older lamps being substituted for efficient LED solutions.
The council has consulted local disability groups and announced that blue badge holders will have free parking in all council-run car parks.
Charges in previous districts where they exist will be discontinued.
In the council's statement, it says the changes reflect a move towards a unified system that provides fair and consistent charging policies across the county.
Proposed plans include introducing Sunday and evening charges at certain car parks and an additional cost for second permits in residential zones to accommodate multiple vehicle ownership.
The council also highlights competitive pricing, noting that the proposed rates will align with other councils and private operators.
A meeting to further discuss these plans is scheduled for 27th February.
