North Yorkshire to host events for Food Waste Action Week, promoting waste reduction
Community cookery demonstrations aim to empower households to use food wisely
Residents in North Yorkshire are set to receive practical advice on reducing food waste as part of Food Waste Action Week.
Organised by North Yorkshire Rotters with chef Nigel Brown, the week-long campaign offers cookery demonstrations and engagement events across the county aimed at making food go further, saving money and mitigating environmental impacts.
Nigel Brown, alongside North Yorkshire Rotters, will demonstrate how to create delicious meals using leftover food and provide tips on reducing food waste at home.
Events are designed to champion Love Food Hate Waste, promoting home composting and recycling as key actions against climate change.
North Yorkshire Council’s executive member for managing the environment, Cllr Richard Foster, emphasised the benefits of reducing food waste.
"Food Waste Action Week is a great opportunity for residents to pick up simple, practical tips that can make a real difference," Foster said. "Wasting less food helps households save money and reduces the environmental impact."
Jeff Coates, volunteer coordinator with North Yorkshire Rotters, highlighted the financial toll of food waste.
"Research has shown that a family of four throws away on average about £100 worth of food every single month," Coates said.
