Dog rescued after falling 150ft from cliff into Keld river
The dog, named Wulf, has been reunited with his owners after a rescue mission which lasted hours
Rescue teams have saved a dog who fell around 150ft off a cliff and into a river below Kisdon Force in Keld.
Crews were mobilised on Sunday afternoon (8th February) after receiving reports of a dog stuck on rocks, having fallen from the cliff.
Reeth Station Fire and Rescue Service, with the guidance of one of the dog’s owners, located the dog, named Wulf, on an island made from rocks.
An access route was found to Wulf after a local farmer gave guidance.
Wulf was on the rocks for hours in darkness when he suddenly decided to enter the river.
Firefighters used a reach pole to hook the dog and pull him to safety.
Wulf was warmed up in a fire tunic while awaiting assistance from the Swaledale mountain rescue team.
Using a rope system, crews carried Wulf around 2km back to Keld, where he was reunited with his owners.
"Wolf is home safe and sound (And a little exhausted)..."
Wulf was checked over by a vet and had no injuries, he was just left feeling 'a little subdued'.
In a Facebook comment, his owner, Jimmy Williams said: "Can’t thank the teams of Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team and Reeth Station - North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service enough after the ordeal this evening.
"Without the help of everyone involved it would’ve been a very different outcome, but happy to confirm Wolf is home safe and sound (And a little exhausted) after two very close calls - Thank you everyone!!"
