Emergency Departments in Hull, Scunthorpe and Grimsby are under "significant pressure" this winter.

That's according to the HUTH (Hull University Teaching Hospitals Trust) who say whilst they're under significant pressure, it's similar to scenes in other hospitals around the country.

In a statement, they say whilst they're seeing usual high attendance figures expected in January, patients are coming in sicker, meaning they're needing to stay in hospital for longer.

They also tell us there's a high number of patients well enough to go home, but have to stay in hospital until care packages can be arranged to support their return home, or places can be found in community facilities.

A spokesperson says "these factors mean we cannot move patients requiring hospital care out of our Emergency Departments and onto wards, placing all areas of our hospitals and our staff under pressure."

The group, which runs Hull Royal Infirmary, Castle Hill Hospital, Diana, Princes of Wales Hospital in Grimsby, Scunthorpe General Hospital and Goole Hospital, is urging people to consider alternatives to A&E such as pharmacies, local GPs and Urgent Treatment Centres if they do not require urgent or emergency treatment.
