Residents are being urged to have their say on controversial plans to build up to 3,500 homes to the west of Grimsby.

The outline application, submitted by Grimsby West LLP – a joint venture between Harworth Group and M F Strawson Ltd – includes proposals for new schools, a link road between the A46 and A1136, local centres, and a country park.

Around 1,700 comments have already been lodged on North East Lincolnshire Council’s planning portal, with the deadline for neighbours now extended to March 15.

Independent councillor Lyndsey Downes is encouraging more people to come forward.

“We’d just like as many people as possible to object to the 3,500 houses that are planned,” she said.

Cllr Downes questioned the scale of the development, adding: “I don’t believe that there is an evidence need for three-and-a-half thousand houses.”

She also raised concerns about “the loss of farmland and impact on nature”, as well as pressure on local infrastructure.

In a statement, Harworth Group said the site is allocated for housing in the adopted Local Plan and insisted the development would deliver “much needed new housing” alongside “significant onsite community amenities”.

The application remains under consideration.
