A North Lincolnshire birder is on this year's New Years Honours list for an MBE - following years of service to local wildlife protection.
Rob Adams from Crowle joined the Spurn Bird Observatory committee in 2010 to help the charity overcome financial challenges.
He says finding out was a shock:
"I almost deleted the email notification, but my wife advised me to open it.
"I thought it was a scam, but I was delighted to receive this award. It felt very special."
Rob says a lot of work has gone into the Trust since he started overseeing matters nearly 15 years ago:
"Now we own six parcels of land, so obviously we went through the acquisition process of purchasing and developing that land for wildlife.
"We started to re-shape the charity, and now it's a hostel for wildlife enthusiasts down at Spurn."
He tells us how it all started:
"I got into bird ringing and birding on the East Coast. I joined the committee in 2010.
"Basically it was at a time when there were a few challenges in front of us with running a small charity like Spurn".
Other people across Northern Lincolnshire are also being recognised in the Honours list:
- Margaret Wilkinson gets an MBE For services to the community in Holton-Le-Clay
- Colin Woodford, Chair and Facilitator, North East Lincolnshire Disability Sports Forum receives and MBE for services to Disabled People and to the community in North East Lincolnshire
