198 students at Tollbar Academy have been asked to self isolate after a further 4 pupils tested positive over the weekend and yesterday.

It means the number of students in isolation has increased by 25 in Year 7; 27 in Year 9; 29 in Year 8; and 93 in Year 11.

The academy says all Parents/Carers of those affected are being contacted.

A number of staff are also self-isolating through track and trace, but it's claimed there are no positive cases among them that had a direct impact on the Academy.

Principal Caroline Yates said:

“We want to reassure parents that we have followed advice from Public Health England and the DfE in responding to this matter immediately.

“We have followed, to the letter, national public health guidance around preventing the spread of coronavirus in school. Social distancing, frequent hand washing, wearing of face coverings in communal areas and regular cleaning is being rigorously practised right across the Academy, and we have robust risk assessment processes in place.

“However, our region is experiencing an upsurge in cases and so I urge all staff and students to remain vigilant at all times and to continue to follow the guidelines to ensure that we can keep each other as safe as possible during this difficult time. We wish all of our students a very speedy recovery.”
