A 'violent man' who left a woman with life-changing injuries after a fight in the street in Grimsby has been jailed for seven years.

Police were called to Milton Road in April 2022 to reports a man had been hit with a glass in retaliation to a fight the night before.

The fight escalated and Hutchison began to cause damage to the men’s car with a machete whilst a woman sat inside.

As a woman got out of a car to plead with the men to leave - she was knocked unconscious, eventually spending three weeks in a critical condition.

The court heard how she still receives treatment for life-changing injuries.

35-year-old Ashley Hutchison of Earl Street in Grimsby pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent after appearing at Grimsby Crown Court on Tuesday 10 October 2023.

Two other men were found guilty of assault in connection with the fight outside of the Bank pub.

Detective Constable Nikkie Culton leading the investigation said:

“Hutchison is a violent man who attacked a defenceless woman leaving her with life changing injuries.

“Whilst today’s outcome will not take away the daily challenges she faces, learning to navigate life as a result of the injuries suffered at the hands of Hutchinson, I hope it will provide her with some comfort in knowing he is now being punished.

“Violent crime will not be tolerated, and we will always do everything we can to seek justice for victims to ensure our communities feel safe and criminals are punished.”
