There's been an increased police presence at a school in Grimsby following an alleged threat written on a bus stop in Weelsby Avenue.
Police say there is no further evidence to support this is a viable threat to Oasis Academy Wintringham, and it's not clear how long the graffiti has been there before the report was received
The force says given the nature of the message they are thoroughly investigating and working with the school to understand the circumstances.
Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Claire Jacobs said:
“We received a report on Wednesday, 25 February, of a photograph that had been posted on social media of graffiti at a bus stop on Weelsby Avenue in Grimsby that related to Oasis Academy Wintringham.
“There is no indication when the graffiti was actually written or how long it had been on the bus stop before the report was received, with the writing stating an act of violence at the school on the 26th.
“Given the nature of what was written, we are thoroughly investigating and working closely with the school to try and determine the circumstances, however at this stage there is no further evidence to support that this is a viable threat or has any credibility.
“I do understand the fear and alarm this will cause both parents, pupils and the local community. There will be an increased police presence at the school and in the local area to provide reassurance and anyone with any concerns I would encourage you to please come and speak to us.
“Our enquiries will continue and we are working closely with Oasis Academy Wintringham to establish the full circumstances surrounding the report.
“Anybody with any information that could assist us with our enquiries is asked to contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 506 of 25 February."
