Humberside Police says it was saddened to learn the details of the incident that took place in Manchester yesterday, at a synagogue on the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

The force says it understands this incident will cause concern and worry in its local communities, so over the coming days it will have an additional police presence to offer visibility and reassurance.

Police said: "Last night we held a meeting with members of our Independent Advisory Group – which is a group of volunteers who are committed to working with us by providing advice and support on a number of issues – to understand how our communities are feeling following the incident in Manchester earlier today.

"Our thoughts are with the victims’ families, and everyone impacted following today’s events and we recognise the direct impact on the wider Jewish community and those in other communities who may be feeling particularly vulnerable."
