Man arrested after reported rape on Grimsby street

Officers are appealing to two specific people to contact them

A 27-year-old man has been arrested after a reported rape on Bethlehem Street in Grimsby.

Officers received reports at around 5am on Saturday (3rd January) that a woman had been raped outside a business premises.

The suspect is on bail as police investigate.

Officers are now appealing to two people who were in the area and spotted on CCTV to contact them.

They include a woman who helped the victim, and a man in what's thought to be a high-vis jacket who was walking nearby.

Leading on the investigation is Detective Inspector Gemma Walker, she said, “At around 5am on Saturday, 3 January 2026, we received a report that a woman had been raped outside a business premises.

“Officers were immediately deployed and began conducting extensive lines of enquiry, including reviewing CCTV, gathering witness statements, and engaging with the victim to understand the full circumstances surrounding the report.

“Following these initial enquiries, we can confirm a 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape and has since been bailed pending further investigation.

“Investigations of this nature are extremely complex, and we are now at a critical point where we would like to appeal to two people who we believe may be key witnesses with vital information.

“From trawling through CCTV, footage shows a man in what is thought to be a high visibility jacket walking nearby, followed by a woman who is seen coming to the assistance of the victim until emergency services arrived.

“We would like to thank the woman who came to the aid of the victim at the time and would urge her, and the man who may have also been in the area at the time, to please come forward with any information, no matter how small, to assist detectives.
