It comes as a councillor has expressed concern about incoming bus timetable changes in Grimsby area.
Cllr Tim Mickleburgh (Labour – South Ward) has said he is concerned by changes to services for the Grange estate area of Grimsby, due to come in from June 1. The area would become served by an amalgamated timetable for No. 11 and 12 buses.
This will see no buses stopping by the Grange estate on Mondays to Fridays for much of the afternoon. A Stagecoach spokesperson, however, has said the timetable changes are to reflect passenger demand.
Cllr Mickleburgh claimed the changes to the No. 11 and 12 buses “will negatively affect residents living in the Grange. “This will severely impact the mobility of people to get around, especially as South Ward has a lower than average rate of car ownership, with many elderly also,” he claimed. Asked about the level of usage he has known for these services, Cllr Mickleburgh claimed it was on the low side as it got towards Waltham, but picked up from the Grange into town.
“I have been on buses with 20-30 people on it for this section. Currently the 11 and 12 give a 30 minute frequency, but this will be reduced to hourly with the gaps.”
However, a Stagecoach East Midlands spokesperson said: “Working closely with transport officers at North East Lincolnshire Council, we introduced some new and enhanced bus services in Grimsby during the summer of last year with financial support from the Bus Service Improvement Plan; this included new Services 11 and 12 providing links from Waltham, Bradley Village, Morrisons, Grange estate and Grimsby town centre.
“A review of passenger numbers shows most people are using the new services during the off-peak period, so we are revising the timetable to reflect the pattern of travel demand and make the best use of the available funding.”
