A young man who took advantage of someone he knew by raping her in her own home, and then stealing her purse, has been sentenced to eight years in prison, handed a restraining order and will also be on the sex offenders register for life.
Glen Young, 21-years-old, of no fixed abode pleaded guilty to rape at Grimsby Crown Court on Friday 27 September 2024.
On Monday 15 August, a woman was ready to walk home after a night out with her friends in Grimsby Town Centre when she met up with Young, who she knew through mutual friends.
Young offered to walk her home safely and as they approached her address, trusting him, she gave him her keys to help open the door to get inside.
Once inside, Young took advantage of her trust, and raped her.
Detective Constable Nichola Oakley, leading the investigation from our Protecting Vulnerable People Unit said: “Young is a deviant rapist who abused the trust of someone who knew him, taking advantage of her in her own home, before leaving with her purse.
“Your home is somewhere we are supposed to feel safe, and this opportunistic individual used this to inflict pain and trauma on a vulnerable woman.
“Coming forward is not easy, and I’d like to commend the victim for her bravery in immediately telling her friend, and then reporting it to the police – this ordeal with undoubtedly stay with her for the rest of her life, and it is because of her sheer courage that Young is now behind bars.
