The Scottish FA have appointed an Independent Lead to investigate the events during last month's Old Firm.

The review will aim to establish exactly what happened both inside Ibrox and the surrounding area on the day of the game, and examining decisions made before, during, and after the match, with a view to identifying lessons learnt and making recommendations to avoid a repeat of similar scenes

It will be led by Mark Blackbourne, who the SFA say is a "vastly experienced sports event consultant who continues to lead on match operations at major club and international competitions under UEFA and FIFA jurisdiction".

The Scottish Cup quarter-final took place between Rangers and Celtic on March 8, with the visitors winning on penalties after a goalless draw.

Celtic were handed the entire Broomloan Road stand for the fixture - roughly 7,500 tickets - the first time since 2018 that either club had received the kind of visiting ticket allocation previously synonymous with the Glasgow Derby.

Fans of both clubs ran on to the pitch and clashed as stewards and police separated the two sets of supporters.

Several officers, stewards and fans were injured, including a 10-year-old boy who was struck by a coin.

Nine arrests were made within 24 hours by Police Scotland, who described the post-match scenes as "despicable" and "shameful".

Celtic and Rangers will meet again for the final time this season at Parkhead on May 10.
