A deal has been agreed between Rangers and Russell Martin to make him the club's next head coach, Clyde Superscoreboard understands.

The former Southampton boss has been one of the frontrunners in the race alongside Davide Ancelotti.

Martin had a spell on loan at Ibrox in 2018 as a player and has also managed MK Dons and Swansea.

The 39-year old led Southampton to promotion to the Premier League in his first season in charge at St Mary's.

He was unable to replicate that form in the top flight and was sacked in December with just one win from their 16 league matches.

It is understood that Martin is travelling to Glasgow to sign paperwork and is expected to be announced as Philippe Clement's replacement within the next 24 hours, barring any late hitches.
