Rangers fire Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell
Rangers have fired Chief Executive Officer Patrick Stewart and Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell with immediate effect.
Chairman Andrew Cavenagh thanked both men for their work but said "the club needs different things today than it did six months ago".
The decision comes after months of protests against the pair from Rangers supporters.
Current board member Fraser Thornton has stepped in as interim CEO until a replacement is found.
More change under new Rangers ownership
Stewart was appointed 12 months ago after a long period at Manchester United and saw the club change ownership, with Cavenagh and other American investors taking charge at Ibrox.
Thelwell, who had previously worked for several Premier League clubs including Everton, joined at the end of last season and was in charge of a big squad rebuilding job over the summer.
The duo were seen as pivotal in the club's hiring of head coach Russell Martin, which drew the ire of many fans.
Martin only lasted three months in to the season before he was sacked, with Danny Röhl chosen as his replacement.
Despite results improving under the German, protests against the board only increased.
Thelwell was blamed for a poor transfer window, with big money spent on players who are yet to deliver.
The Englishman also hired his own son, Robbie, as Head of Recruitment, which supporters again criticised.
The two were confronted by angry fans at airports after European games on two separate occasions and there were continuous displays at Ibrox calling for them to leave the club, culminating in a banner with targets on their faces.
On Monday morning Cavenagh said: "Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell are leaving Rangers Football Club.
"Responsible change is measured and steady. Our first priority has been to improve the sporting performance, and that led to our decision to part ways with Russell Martin and bring in Danny Rohl. Danny has now started the process of improving the on-pitch performance, and that has given us the chance to focus on other parts of the club.
"Patrick and Kev are both skilled executives and have delivered a lot for the club in their time with it. We've now had six months since we became part of Rangers to assess the club's needs as well as to get to know Patrick and Kev a bit more. Simply put, when we think about what we need in both CEO and sporting director today, it's different than who we think Patrick and Kev are.
"We want people that align with the vision for the next chapter. I will not throw dirt on either of them. I think very highly of them both on personal and professional levels. It's just the reality that the club needs different things today than it did six months ago.
"We've already started the hiring process and hope to have appointments soon, but we will prioritise quality and fit over speed. I want to reassure our supporters that Danny will continue to have all the support that he needs. In the interim, Fraser Thornton, our director, will be assuming the duties as acting CEO.
"Change like this is always painful, especially when it involves people we care about. But at the same time, we're very excited about this opportunity to bring in fresh leadership to this great club. We appreciate everyone's continued support."
Kevin's son Robbie and other people hired by him such as Technical Director Dan Purdy are set to remain in their roles.
Rangers host Braga in the Europa League on Thursday.
