Officers search area in Oban as part of Euan Johnston murder enquiry
The 26-year-old was shot dead in his car in Glasgow in 2016, with one man already sentenced to at least 22-years behind bars for his murder
Detectives investigating the murder of a 26-year-old man in Glasgow in 2016 are searching an area in Oban.
Euan “EJ” Johnston was shot dead while he sat at traffic lights in his car in Scotland Street in November 2016. He died in hospital a short time later from a catastrophic brain injury.
33-year-old David Scott was jailed for a minimum of 22 years in May 2018 for the 26-year-old’s murder.
More than one person involved in 26-year-old's murder
However, Police say their extensive enquiries revealed that more than one person was at the scene of the murder and the case has remained open.
A team of detectives, specialist officers and national resources, are now carrying out detailed searches in a grass embankment area near Soroba Road in Oban, where it is thought a firearm possibly connected to the murder could be situated.
This activity is expected to last several days and there will be an increased police presence in the area.
Officers are also re-appealing for any new information which may help us get justice and answers for Mr Johnston's family.
Detective Superintendent Peter Sharp said: "We know from our enquiries that there was more than one person involved in the murder of Euan Johnston and we are determined to bring those responsible for his death to justice.
"Time is no barrier for justice"
"Although his murder was almost nine years ago, time is no barrier for justice and we are working to get answers for Mr Johnston's relatives.
"They have been informed of these new searches and specialist officers are supporting them during this difficult time. We will keep them updated as our investigations continue.
"As well as our searches, I am appealing for anyone with information, and who may not have already spoken to us, to do so now.
"A significant amount of time has passed since Mr Johnston's murder and we understand that allegiances have may have changed over the time.
