Published 2nd Jun 2025

Nils Koppen has left Rangers in one of the first big changes made by their new American owners.

Everton's former head of recruitment Dan Purdy has been brought in as technical director as Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises look to put their stamp on the club.

The consortium finalised their takeover on Friday and promised an initial £20million investment this summer.

New sporting director Kevin Thelwell starts in his new role today (Monday) and will team up with Purdy again after the pair worked together at Everton.

Koppen leaves having been promoted to technical director at the end of last year.

The Belgian initially joined as director of football recruitment in January 2024 after a spell as head of scouting for Dutch club PSV Eindhoven.

Rangers are expected to announce their new head coach soon with Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin both still in contention for the job.
