Motherwell's Tawanda Maswanhise hopes to continue 'shocking' himself after AFCON
Motherwell attacker Tawanda Maswanhise hopes to continue "shocking" himself with his form when he comes back from the Africa Cup of Nations.
The 23-year-old Zimbabwe forward picked up the William Hill Scottish Premiership player of the month award for November, after scoring three times in the month to take his Well tally to 12 so far this season.
Maswanhise, who signed from Leicester in 2024, has helped Jens Berthel Askou's side to third place in the table, above Rangers on goal difference having played a game more, but he is set to depart on international duty for the AFCON tournament in Morocco, after which he hopes to return to Scotland and carry on his good work.
Speaking to the media at Fir Park, the Well forward, "absolutely buzzing" to pick up his award, was asked to reveal his targets for the season.
"Not yet," he said. "When I come back from AFCON I can maybe give you a rough idea or rough numbers.
"So hopefully I can continue this form and keep performing week in and week out and I'll let you guys know soon.
"I gave myself smaller targets than I have in my head now, because I've upgraded them.
"And hopefully I can just carry on just shocking myself, really, not you guys, just shocking myself.
"I feel there's so much more in me that you guys need to see and what I need to do as well for myself. Hopefully, I can hit my targets I have in my head.
"I think it's just a belief the manager gives me, to play with freedom and confidence.
"And what he's telling me to do is working so hopefully I can just keep continuing doing what I'm doing.
"I know I'm confident in front of goal. Every chance I get, hopefully I can make sure it's on target and hopefully it's a goal.
"I think I need to work on my game intelligence and a lot more physical strength as well.
"I know what I'm doing now looks good. But when I obviously increase my physical strength, my game intelligence, it's going look so much better and more neater as well."
Zimbabwe are in the same AFCON section as Egypt, South Africa and Angola with the opening game against the Egyptians on December 22.
Maswanhise said: "Honestly, I'm so excited. It's my first one.
"I know there are big names playing in this tournament.
"And I'm playing a few big players in my first game, so hopefully I can really show myself against top opposition.
"I think playing at that level, in that tournament, trying to make a goal or two will give me massive confidence coming back as well. So hopefully that can happen."
