A man's been found guilty of killing a 77-year-old woman in a car crash in Cumbernauld two years ago.

Thirty-one year-old Leigh Sutherland was driving a Ford Mondeo when he collided with Margaret Allan's Peugeot 108 on the Condorrat Ring Road in June 2023.

Margaret, who was driving the Peugeot, was taken by ambulance to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where she died on Thursday, 6 July, 2023.

A 10-year-old male passenger in the Peugeot car was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital Monklands for treatment

Sutherland had been banned from driving for six months just one week before the collision and tried to leave the scene without giving his details to officers.

He'll be sentenced on December 2.

Sergeant Andy Coutts, North Lanarkshire Roads Policing said: "Our thoughts remain with Margaret's family, who have been dignified and strong throughout this tragic ordeal.

"Sutherland's actions showed a blatant disregard for other road users and the law, and since the incident he has showed no remorse.

"We hope the court’s decision brings some peace to the family."
