Police confirm an 88-year-old died after being struck

An 88-year-old woman has died after being knocked down by a lorry in Largs.

It happened just after 10 clock yesterday morning near the mini roundabout on Main Street.

The woman was struck by an HGV driven by a 51-year-old man as she was crossing the road.

A statement released this morning says she died at the scene.

The road was closed for around 8 hours for a police investigation and to get the truck towed away.

Sergeant Gordon Stewart said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died.

“Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.

“We urge anyone who witnessed the crash to contact us. We ask any drivers in Main Street around the time of the crash to check their dashcam footage and please get in touch if it holds anything which may be relevant to our investigation.”
